From oral blending to morphology Grow the Code is an e-learning teaching platform for your whole school or home. It is an affordable way to provide all the resources needed for the first four years of schooling and can also be used to supplement and enhance your current phonics programme.


It aligns with our successful Letters and Sounds programme that uses physical flashcards, picture-sound cards and decodable text for daily phonics lessons.

Caters for all learners

Develop the core skills for reading and spelling in a fun and effective way. Grow the Code fosters children’s phonemic awareness skills in preparation for high-quality phonic teaching. They learn how the alphabet works and are equiped with the knowledge and skills they need to become fluent readers and confident spellers by the age of seven. 


Grow the Code uses a 3-part multisensory approach, engage students visually, auditorily, and kinesthetically by using visual cues, auditory drills, and kinesthetic activities to reinforce the phoneme's sound and its representation.


Grow the Code can also be used as a powerful catch-up programme for those with ‘phonics gaps’.

Teacher guidence and professional learning is embeded within the phonic progression, along with decodable texts, multisensory learning tools, and progress monitoring through cumulative digital assessments. All your preparation is taken care of. Carefully designed daily lessons will advance children through:


  • oral blending
  • blending for reading
  • segmenting for spelling
  • alternative spellings
  • suffixes and morphology


Designed for projectors, whiteboards, laptops and iPads

Research-based and comprehensive - but also effective and enjoyable! Each daily phonics lesson covers one letter/sound (GPC).

  • revisit previously learnt letters/sounds and tricky words 
  • learn a new letter/sound with animated formations of lower and upper-case letters.
  • Practising reading new words using the focus phoneme
  • children can then apply their new knowledge with a caption for dictation and a fully decodable reader.

Fully customisable

Choose between:

  • sassoon (on the left) or primer font
  • photo (on the left) or illustrated mnemonics.

Letters are embedded into the illustrated mnemonics to help with recall and letter formation.

Growing the code

Alternative spellings are gradually introduced at phase 5. When revisiting the letter-sounds all previously taught spellings are shown, reinforcing and building on knowledge.

Segmenting for spelling

Daily segmenting activities are provided. Drag and drop the letters to make the word that matches the picture, then manipulate the letters to make more words.

Applying knowledge

For each phonics lesson, there is a caption or sentence for dictation and a carefully selected, fully decodable book.

Spend less time marking and more time teaching!

All children can quickly be assessed using the online assessment tool. Results are recorded and sorted and the bottom 20% of children can be targeted for extra keep-up lessons. Children can easily be assigned to a new teacher when moving to another year group.
